The Coimbatore Brahmana Saba in coordination with Tamilnadu Brahmana Saba, Coimbatore District, and with the assistance of all the Brahmins in and around our country and abroad had decided to renovate the existing Brahmin crematorium named "Vaikundam" (estd, over 100 years above) and put up a Vedic Crematorium at the exclusivey reserved site for brahmins at Chockenpudur, Sundakanpudur Road,(near Selvapuram,) Coimbatore.

The project is named "Mahasanthi"

The site located at Chockenpaudur, is allotted to the Coimbatore Brahmana Maha Sabha, Coimbatore more than 100 years back, by the then British Government of Tamilnadu, for exclusive use as crematorium for brahmin community.

It was proposed to have facilities like:

  • A Graham concept, to do the first day rites (immediately after the death)
  • A village concept
  • Place to do the homam etc.(first day rites)
  • A LPG gas based Gremator, with latest German technology
  • Vedic place
  • Garden
  • Shanthi Mandapam
  • Bathrooms-toilets
  • Office, car parking facilities etc.

The planning was to have an airconditioned mortuary to keep dead body, in case of necessity for obvious reasons.. The Vedics of Coimbatore have agreed and offered their full assistance in this regard, and a mortuary van will be provided to take the body from the house/hospital to the crematorium.

A help line phone will be provided and a total package will be offered, in case of necessscity and if desired, for the first day rites.

Plan to offer financial assistance for the first day cremation expenses, to the needy and deserving families. The Catering community in Coimbatore have come forward to offer food , free of cost, to the needy families on the first day and take care of their food requirements.

The Bhoomi puja was done on Sunday the 25th January, 2009 at 11.41 a.m.byShri M.Krishnan, Managing Director of M/s Sree Krishna Sweets Private Ltd.who is the Chairman of "Mahasanthi vedic crematorium project" in the presence and with blessings of Shri C G Venkatraman, Auditor & Chairman,TAMRAS, Shri N.V.Nagasubramaniam, Advocate and President of Coimbatore Brahmana Maha Saba, Coimbatore. Apart from the vedic leading community and family members attended the function and offered their possible help..

All the likeminded brothers and sisters come forward and take part in the prestigious Brahmin project, first of its kind in India.

Various Business entities assisted voluntarily to the project in repective domains of their expertise with commitment to the project and the organization.

A state of art LPG based cremation system was built by M/S Vijay Gas Agencies.

A complete PLC system which integrates the crematorium, audio visual system was built by Innovative Controls.

The electrical engineering of the whole premises was engineered by M/S P.P.Associates.

The software automation and maintenance and Mahasanthi's webportal was developed and maintained by Haritham Technologies.
